FAQ - Product Questions - Baely's Paw Shield
Will Baely’s Paw Shield protect my dog’s paws from hot pavement?
Baely’s Paw Shield was made to help protect our dog’s paws from the Atlanta, Georgia heat. Baely’s Paw Shield is the most effective hot and cold weather natural paw protection available. However, we need to make sure that we are very clear on the dangers of black pavement.
The biggest danger to your pup’s paws in the summer is black pavement. It absorbs and retains heat all day long. After 4 pm on a sunny 95 degree Atlanta day, the black pavement is over 145 degrees F. This extreme heat will cause near-instantaneous burning in all bare skin – both humans and dogs.
Baely’s Paw Shield was developed with a wax blend that melts just above 149 F. This is the top end of our ability to protect your dog’s paws. Baely’s Paw Shield is not intended or designed to enable anyone to walk their dog on hot black pavement in the hottest part of the day in the Summer. Baely’s Paw Shield gives your pup enough time to get to safety in the event of incidental contact under these conditions, but if anyone walks their dog for a mile on black pavement on a sunny summer evening — your dog will be burned unless you have boots on his or her paws, and I don’t know many dogs who will actually wear dog boots.
Other conditions such as white concrete, sand, sunny hiking trails, etc. – bring it on! Baely’s Paw Shield can handle it. Black pavement, however, is dangerous to all living creatures with exposed skin. Please be careful.
